Cheltenham Festival Blog - Members' memories Part 1
As we build up towards Rupestrian running in the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham in March, we will be featuring Festival memories, tips and stories from some of our Club members on our Cheltenham Festival 2010 blog.
SRC member: Chris Windsor
Festival memories
Biggest disaster - Backing Harchibald (pictured left) at all prices as if defeat were out of the question (ouch!). Lumping on Rhinestone Cowboy in the 'bumper' would be a close second!
Biggest win - Sublimity, backed each-way at 66-1
Best moments - Any win that means taking money off Barry Dennis (no offence intended!)
Funniest memory: During the 'bumper' when Pizarro nearly barged Rhinestone Cowboy off the track, the on-course commentator said "Pizzaro has jut hit the front but he'd better watch out because there's a cowboy coming in to town!"
This year's Festival bets:
Nap - Garde Champetre in the Cross-Country
Supreme Novices - Dunguib
Arkle - Somersby
Champion Hurdle - Khyber King
Triumph Hurdle - There's only one RUPEY!

I wouldn't be too concerned if all tickets are sold out - it's easy to pick them up from touts either in the town centre or near the course. Normally you can get them for face value
I agree with afinch. I would be very happy for all prize money to go towards another horse as I am not in this to make money but just for the sheer enjoyment of racehorse ownership. The more horses the better as it gives all of us a greater opportunity to watch them.
I know its one of my old chestnuts but if we were to win/be placed in the triumph hurdle there is lots of prize money on offer.
If successful, I would love a large proportion of this to go to the next horse.
Prehaps it maybe worth agreeing sometime before the race.
Hi, everyone who is going to cheltenham if you are like me and didn't win the ballot I would book your tickets quick looked on line last week and they had tattestall and club tickets available just went to book and all tatts tickets have gone only club left £75 each good luck
please put me out of my misery, its killing me!
you aint wrong viking flagship deep s what a race fav all time mind blowing was it marthas son in the three way
when do we find out if we got balloted in
Just cant wait !!!! We have been going for the whole week for the last 5 years and the atmsophere at the races and afterwards is awesome !!!
Never landed a big touch so maybe its my year , watching Kauto win the Gold Cup lose it then win it back was incredible - he`s never been as good as he is now and will retain his crown !
For once we dont seem to have an Irish hotpot for the bumper - Clive Tizzard is very keen on Cue Card so that`ll do for me 33`s at the moment.
Menorah to cause a big upset in the Supreme !
Can definitely echo the sentiments of Chris about Rhinestone. I backed him too, we were robbed!
Absouletly love Cheltenham, have not missed a Weds at the festival for about 25 years. used to do 2/3 days but have had to cut back due to my liver & wallet!!
Weds is the best day, my favourite race is the Queen Mother, have witnessed some epic battles with Viking Flagship, Deep Sensation etc. Now the weds has 4 grade 1s & top handicap - excellent racing.
My best winner has to be Monsignor in the 1999 bumper storming up the hill to beat the Martin Pipe hotpot Golden Alpha at 50-1! That was an amazing night! Also had a touch on Burntoakboy in the Coral Cup a couple of years ago.
This year really loking fwd to Dunguib, best ever winner of the bumper I have ever seen. Cant back him at odds on, but if he was mine I would run him in the Champion.
Also the RSA chase looks a cracker, The Nightingale looks value at 33-1. but wait til NR no
bet
Good luck to all.
