Share in 'Kahfre'
Kahfre was purchased at the Tattersalls Sales in July 2010, and is a very exciting prospect for National Hunt racing in 2011.
Bred by the Ballygallon Stud, he is a tall, rangy chestnut, out of a half-sister to Group winners on the flat and over hurdles, and by Peintre Celebre, the former European Champion Horse of the Year and now a leading sire both on the flat and in the National Hunt sphere.
Now a three year old, he won on his debut over hurdles at Plumpton and followed up with a fine second under a big weight at Huntingdon. He will now step up in grade and contest valuable 'Pattern' races, and the hope is that he will prove good enough to follow in the footsteps of last year's multiple winner Rupestrian, who won four times for the SRC en route to running in the Triumph Hurdle on Gold Cup day.
Breeding:
Kahfre is the 6th foal of Minerva, an unraced half-sister to nine winners, including the high-class US performer Sword Dance, winner of the Grade 2 Del Mar handicap (and over £100,000 in prize-money), two further Group performers and Correggio, a multiple winner over hurdles. Minerva’s dam is a Listed-placed half-sister to the Group 1 winner Fatherland, a top-class two-year-old who won the National Stakes that year before finishing runner-up in the Irish 2,000 Guineas.
Kahfre is by the former European Champion Horse of the Year Peintre Celebre. A minor winner at 2, Peintre Celebre was a revelation at three, winning the French Derby, the Grand Prix de Paris and the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, setting a course record. A son of the outstanding sire Nureyev, he was effective on any ground and at won over 1m to 1m4f. To date, he has sired several hundred winners, including 21 in Group 1 contests.
What distance should Kahfre run over?
Peintre Celebre’s progeny have an excellent record over 8-13 furlongs, on any ground. On the dam’s side, the presence of Caerleon brings plenty of stamina in to the mix, so he should be running over 1m3f+ on the flat, and should have plenty of stamina to run over hurdles too. Interestingly, the only other Peintre Celebre/Caerleon cross finished 3rd in the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy, which hints at the class in the pedigree.
At just £129 a share, this high-class prospect represents excellent value and shares are expected to sell out fast!
